The monsoon period is ongoing in India. From the 6 weeks of monsoon in Gujarat only 3 weeks delivered rain and that also only in certain areas in lower volumes. There is currently a 21% deficit in rainfalls compared to normal. The sowings of new castor is about 34% behind schedule compared to last year and 84% compared to average years. Only 67.000 hectare are planted compared to 151.000 hectare in normal years. The total area in normal years is normally 966.000 hectare. So still a lot of castor needs to be planted.
