Progress Update – Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
At Castor International, we are pleased to share a key development in our ongoing sustainability efforts. In July of last year, we initiated a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for our core products: Castor oil and its derivatives, Hydrogenated Castor Oil (HCO) and 12-Hydroxystearic Acid (12-HSA).
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a detailed process used to evaluate the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. This includes every phase, from the extraction of raw materials and production, to distribution, usage, and disposal. The goal is to quantify the total environmental footprint, such as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and waste generation. This valuable data enables companies to identify areas for improvement, reduce their environmental impact, and make more sustainable choices in product development and operations.
To conduct this critical assessment, we collaborated with EcoReview, a specialized consultant with extensive experience in sustainability evaluations. By assessing the environmental impact of our operations and products, we are working towards a more sustainable future and gaining insights that will shape our strategies moving forward.
This effort will ultimately lead to the creation of an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), a formal certification that provides transparent, verified information about the environmental performance of our products. It is an important step in building trust with our customers and stakeholders while reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.
We look forward to sharing further updates as we progress towards completing the LCA and developing our EPD.
