Extreme weather  - Castor sowings

Only 5 weeks to go, then the monsoon will officially be over. In Gujarat we have seen so far 7 weeks with normal to large excess rainfalls and 5 weeks with deficit to large deficit rainfall. Cumulative Gujarat received a plus of 46% more rain than the average. But the rain was not equaly spread over the state: the region with the lowest rainfall received 8%, the one with the highest rainfall 282% more than normal. The city Vadodara is grappling with severe flood currently, so that crocodiles living in the Vishwamitri River have been swept into the city by floodwater. But not only the South-East of Gujarat is flooded there are also floodings in the Kutch area one of the Castor planting areas. According to BBC farmers told them that the rainfalls had caused extensive damage to crops like cotton and groundnut.
